Obviously I said yes.
I've been wanting to get my career in photography taking off, but I just wasn't sure which aspect to pursue—ideally, I'm open to any sort of work, be it product shots, stock images, or weddings. After seeing the success my brother-in-law and sister have been having with wedding photography, I decided that's the sort of work I'd like to do too.
Plus, there's just something about being the one responsible for capturing the raw emotion expressed during that couple's day. One of the photographers in one of the many books I've been reading says (and I'm paraphrasing) you should basically shoot with your heart... not your mind. Try to feel when an emotional (Kodak-) moment is going to happen and always ready yourself and your camera for it.
With that said, I'm so blessed that I've been given the opportunity to photography my best friends' wedding as I know it'll be full of Kodak-moments.
Last fall, we went to a park in Exeter, ON, to shoot their engagement photos, and I absolutely had a blast. Cyn and Jeff are young, fun-lovin' folks who just naturally work with the camera. I didn't really have to direct them too much. Capturing the playful spirit and laughter was photographic gold for me; just kept my finger on the shutter button and snapped picture after picture.
I was pleased with the resulting engagement photos, and it only made me that much more excited for June 19 to arrive. I've bought about 3 or 4 wedding photography books/magazines, a 430ex II flash, extra battery, and I still need to get a couple more things within a month and I'll be good to go. So please wish me luck!
And, of course, best of luck to Cyn and Jeff... one of the happiest couples I know. Want proof that they're one of the happiest couples I know? Have a gander at the following images from their engagement shoot:
