Well, I spent an easy 30-or-so minutes on Ontario.ca Friday morning to register my business name.
It's official. GreenAnt Design & Photo is now a registered business name. Woo!
I was pretty surprised how simple it was. If you're starting your own photo and/or design business here in Ontario, definitely check out the link above. A $60 fee and 30 minutes of answering simple questions are well worth it... definitely better than getting caught operating a business sans license in the future.
It's probably scary to think about the legal junk when starting out a business (it sure turned me off of starting my own business) but a friend/former co-worker who runs her own design business said it's a piece of cake to get licensed. And, she was right.
Keep in mind, though, that results may differ per person (sounds like a medicine ad). I haven't hired any employees or rented any space (which are a couple of things addressed during the application), so it was really rather straightforward. But if you're at the point where you're hiring employees and operating out of an office building, you probably already know way more than I do at this point.
Anywho, best of luck to all those new folks starting out. It'll be a blast I'm sure!
